Sunset and the Sky deck at Bali’s Ayana Resort

Ayana Resort & Spa boasts one of Bali’s most breathtaking locations, 196 gloriously landscaped acres rising high above the Indian Ocean—so high, in fact, that you take a cliffside elevator from the resort down to the beach. The resort’s new wedding venue, Sky, is the cherry on the top of the cake, a spectacular deck that juts out over the waves, offering 180-degree views of water, sunset, and mountain. It would be hard to find a more dramatic spot to exchange vows—floating between sky and sea—and even your entrance has a big helping of drama as guests watch you walk from your villa down a staircase banked by multi-tiered fountains.

Sky is the latest addition to Ayana’s menu of seven romantic wedding venues, which includes two glass chapels and a joglo, an ancient Javanese pavilion. But it produces a heart-in-your-mouth thrill unlike anything else on this Indonesian island.

Guests with acrophobia might be better off watching the proceedings from one of the adjacent gardens, which are ideal reception sites (you can welcome up to 500 guests to a seated dinner). If yours is a more intimate wedding, the Jimbaran Bay resort also has a dozen restaurants for a celebration. And if it’s just you and your new husband, you can dine at a table for two set up on a private jetty (it’s been voted the most romantic dining venue in Bali), or have a posh villa decorated with dozens of candles, Balinese flags, umbrellas, and flowers.

Good luck coming back to earth.
