The basics
Looking like the kind of beach house that we all aspire to, Shutters on the Beach has been an L.A. hangout for 20 years, welcoming more than 80 weddings a year. Not only is it one of SoCal’s few oceanside resorts, but it understands the ageless appeal of cruiser bikes and gingerbread cupolas, seagrass on the sand and wicker lounge chairs. For couples who want their wedding memories filled with images of a perfect summer day, this is the spot.
Wedding details
Happiness reins on the pool deck, with a view of the Pacific and easy access to indoor spaces you can decorate with shells and candles. The grandest ballroom also has a floor-to-ceiling wood-burning fireplace for those crisp California nights, and Venetian chandeliers customized with glass seashells.
Getting there
You’re within shouting distance of the Santa Monica Pier, so guests driving from L.A. can easily make it back home after the party—though smart celebrators book a room so they can let their hair down. If you’re lingering for a few days, you can walk to foodie temples, pizza parlors, and seafood dives.
Keep in mind
The most popular summer weekends can see as many as five bridal parties patrolling the grounds; if you want to be one of them, you’d better get that deposit in early. You’re required to bring in your own coordinator on the day of the event; they’ve got a list of a dozen great planners you can call.
