Picture your winter wedding here: the lobby fireplace at Rhode Island’s Ocean House

People usually think of New England resorts as places for a summer wedding: the bride arrives via sailboat, marries in a flower garden or beside the sea, then sits down to a lobster supper under a tent on a wide green lawn. Summer is also when prices are at their highest and reservations are toughest to get.

So switch gears and think about New England in winter. The bride arrives via horse-drawn sleigh, marries in front of a lively hearth, and dines by lantern-light in a high-beamed barn. Four of the five properties I profiled in a recent  post for CNTraveler.comOcean House, the Mayflower Inn, Twin Farms, and the White Barn Inn—would make lovely spots for a winter wedding. If you’re itching to marry at Nantucket’s White Elephant, you’ll have to wait for the spring thaw.
