The Basics

After spending some time looking at destination wedding locations in the Desert Southwest, there’s nothing we’ve come to appreciate more than an oasis — where the predominant color is green and the predominant element is water.

The FireSky Resort & Spa, in Scottsdale, is just such an oasis. Its rooms enclose a large courtyard that looks like a tropical garden, with lush plants everywhere, several lagoons and pools (one of them with an artificial sand beach), a handful of waterfalls, and a tucked-away bit of lawn and terrace perfect for an intimate ceremony.

The 204-room Firesky, which is part of the Kempton group, is one of those Phoenix/Scottsdale hotels that have been around forever (which in their case means from back in the 1960’s) but through constant refurbishing of facilities and philosophies have remained on top of their game.

Wedding Details

And they have been doing weddings for so long that there’s virtually no challenge you can give them that they haven’t tackled before.  Their in-house wedding specialist, Jessica Angel, has been a wedding and event planner for 17 years.

The outside ceremony location, not surprisingly known as the Oasis Lagoon venue, can do seating for about 40 people, but if both of you have always been good at making friends, the hotel has ballrooms that can accommodate a banquet for up to 500 guests.

Keep in Mind

Because you don’t want to stay hidden away forever, guests are able to walk to Scottsdale Fashion Square, on the edge of Scottsdale Old Town. Or you could, too, if at the last minute you needed to pick up something blue.
