The Glen House boasts a perfect aprés-wedding gathering deck that’s happy to welcome your pup.

Mt. Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast, is known for serious hiking trails, spectacular views (on a clear day, five states and Canada), and erratic weather–for a while, it held the record for the 20th century’s highest winds. But while it may not be the best site for a marriage ceremony, it is a fantastic backdrop for one, particularly now that New Hampshire’s spanking-new Glen House is rolling out the wedding carpet. You’ll need to get a move on: With rates this reasonable—a five-course reception starts at $107 per person, including an hour’s hosted bar (!)—we predict it’s going to book up fast.

In a state better known for its presidential primaries than its hotels, The Glen House stands out as a bastion of comfort. There are seared scallops and sweet potato grits in the Notch Grill; the back deck is equipped with a broad fire pit; and there’s a wall of windows in the bar area–along with a selection of craft beers. Though it’s just dialing up its wedding offerings, there’s a dedicated catering staff and all sorts of tempting spaces, indoors and out, including a lawn and tented space with full-on mountain views. (You literally couldn’t get closer—the hotel is adjacent to the Mt. Washington Auto Road entrance.)

At New Hampshire's new Glen House, the view's the thing.

At New Hampshire’s new Glen House, spring for a mountain-vista room: The view’s the thing.

A destination wedding here could incorporate a group excursion up the Auto Road—in the winter, you’ve even got the option of snowshoeing back down. But if the weather doesn’t cooperate, there’s still enough to keep your gang busy, what with hiking trails, biking paths, and kayak tours. Of course first you’ll have to get them off that deck.
